Business in the front, party at the Come and Take It Celebration. The Mullet Championship is back, and it’s exactly the kind of gloriously unserious tradition that makes this weekend feel like Gonzales’s own. Contestants compete across three all-natural, all-grown, zero-wigs-allowed age divisions, 0-10, 11-18, and 19 and up, for the chance to walk away with a Championship Belt Buckle and permanent bragging rights.
Entry is $25 a mullet, and every contestant is asked to bring a little personality to go with the hair: a fun fact for the announcers, a name and superpower for the mullet itself, a theme song, a shout-out to the barber or stylist who made it happen, and a nod to the mullet’s biggest fan. Costumes, characters, and stage presence are all encouraged (though this is a family-friendly show, so keep it PG).
Want to be in the running for the People’s Choice Award too? Pre-register at Hippie Ki-Yay between September 16 and 25, and submit four “Glamour Shots” (front, back, left side, right side) by 5:00 PM on September 25. Those photos get posted to the official Come and Take It Celebration Facebook page for public voting, with likes deciding the winner before voting closes at 1:00 PM on contest day. Walk-up entries are welcome all the way until 2:00 PM on October 3, but only pre-registered mullets are eligible for People’s Choice.
Come contest day, contestants line up on the west side of the Main Stage at 3:45 PM, the judging kicks off at 4:00 PM, and the newly crowned 2026 Championship Mullets take their bow in front of the Main Stage once the scores are tallied. Whether you’re competing, cheering on a friend, or just there to see who dared to grow the boldest mullet in Gonzales, this is one of the most purely fun hours of the whole Come and Take It weekend.
